About Jaipur
Jaipur, also popularly known as the Pink City, historically sometimes rendered as Jeypore, is the capital of Rajasthan state, India. Jaipur is also the capital of Jaipur District. Jaipur is the former capital of a princely state of the same name. The city was founded in 1728 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, the ruler of Amber. He was not only a great ruler but also a renowned mathematician and astrologer, his various talents are clearly exhibited in the city. Vidhydhar Bhattacharya designed Jaipur as per the Hindu treatise, Shilp Shastra. The city was laid with great precision, it could also be called as the first planned city of the country. The population in 2003 was approximately 2.7 million.
Rajasthan is where all the country's similes and metaphors appear to have come together to create a visual extravaganza. Majestic palaces and rugged forts, spectacular deserts, wooded hills and tranquil lakes, bustling towns and quiet villages, amazing flora and fauna and of course, the colorful and vibrant people of Rajasthan form an intricate tapestry of mysticism, grandeur and rusticity. Rajasthan is where all the country's similes and metaphors appear to have come together to create a visual extravaganza.
What Jaipur distinguishes from most of the other Indian cities is the extreme bustling life on the streets. Elephants and camels are running or better say creeping around, adding another interesting part to the already omnipresent daily traffic chaos. Jaipur, that's for sure, is deservedly included on the popular tourist "Golden Triangle" of Delhi-Jaipur-Agra.
